New version of Gravatar Recent Comment

As you will notice, I will make some updates on most of my WordPress plugins in the coming days.

So here is the brand new version of ZdCommentsWidget. This version only includes a minor change but makes it more efficient as a Recent comment widget.

In fact I just added the possibility to have a link to the comment instead of just having a link to the author’s website. I also removed the limit on users displayed (until now only not registered users could be displayed).

You can get the latest version here : zdcommentswidget_101

ZdStatistics Version 2 will be out next week

I’ve been off for quite a long time on Zen-Dreams and this is mainly due to the fact that I’ve been rebuilding ZdStatistics.

ZdStatistics will be available next week in version 2.0. Why next week ? Simply because I need to test it before release, so it’s been installed on this blog and depending on the results I will get until next week I will improve it as much as I can.

Here is a list of the new features and modifications :

  • Changed the flash chart to Google vizualisation so that it loads faster and can be compliant with any browser with javascript support.
  • Export data to CSV files so that you can process them like you want
  • Check Redirections of pages – do not log them. In fact sometimes a page was counted twice because the user specified an url without the pending / and wordpress did the redirection.
  • Display tabs in the admin section optionally
  • Search feature !
  • Better Spam detection using an anti spam provider (default is spamhaus.org)
  • Now recording hits with timezone as specified in your wordpress configuration.
  • Geolocalisation is now using Google Maps to display visitors (needs a Google maps API key)
  • Using a calendar to choose the time period you wish to see
  • Debug option for a better support

Something big is coming…

Ok, I’ve been away from the blog for quite a few days now, but that’s just because something big is going to happen on this blog ;)

Can’t tell more, but stay tuned and come back often to see it ;)

New wordpress plugin: Gravatar top commenters

Today, I just passed by an article talking about MyBlogLog and basically, they are giving some reasons I totally agree with for not using the system.

In fact I used to use that service, but it’s a complete waste of space on your website, and most of the people displayed in there are not leaving comments anyway.

In this article, the author suggest the use of a plugin displaying top commenters or last commenters not only using their names, but also via gravatar service.

So, here is the plugin, he got the idea and I made it :)

Here is the list of features :

  • Display whether Last commenters or top commenters
  • Display user name (or not, via options)
  • Display link to user’s website (or not, via options)
  • Default gravatar
  • Gravatar size

Download ZdCommentsWidget

Once you installed the plugin, just add it to your sidebar and choose your options. A tutorial and Documentation will be written in the next days.

It’s not yet available through WordPress extend, but it will be published today or tommorow. So you’ll be able to get automatic updates :)

ZdMultilang, version 1.1 is out

Due to some requests and feedback I received on my WordPress plugin ZdMultilang, a new version has been published on wordpress.org.

This version is numbered 1.1.0 because of the number of improvements I made to the plugin. But before to talk about what I’ve changed, I’d like to thank all those who gave me their ideas and feedback on the plugin :

  • Impulse for his help on solving a very annoying bug (two flags instead of one)
  • Jeremy Clarke for his suggestion on displaying only translated posts
  • Eduardo and Ferlo for their view of the SEO against the plugin
  • Teneke for the bug due to UTF-8 character encoding
  • Emmanuel Georjon for his comments on dashboard integration and other tips.

Minor Design Update

Image © John-Morgan

Today, after reading this interresting post at Smashing magazine (which by the way is a great source of inspiration to me), I decided to give my sidebar a little bit more space.

And this is not the only modification I made, I also removed the Per hour theme, because it didn’t look equally conceived. So for now, there will only be one state, white background.

ZdMultilang, video tutorial

Here come a short video tutorial for a better understanding of ZdMultilang.

ZdMultilang presentation Video from Anthony PETITBOIS on Vimeo.

For your information, video capture zone won’t show you how the permalink is handled, so this is the way the plugin will manage urls to access the page in a specific language. For example, this blog uses fr and en which can give this : http://blog.zen-dreams.com/fr/zdstats or http://blog.zen-dreams.com/en/zdstats

New theme

As I promised earlier, here is my brand new WordPress Theme. This one suits me better.

This theme is working perfectly on Firefox and quite well on Internet Explorer (except for PNG transparency)

One of the funny things with this theme is that it changes depending on the time of your visit (There are three states, night, day, and morning/evening)

The sidebar is now less cluttered than previous one and Tags will be available during searches and wrong pages.

Third wordpress theme

And here is my Third theme, this ons was made for me. Still based on Sandbox, i wanted this theme fresh and clean. At first I was creating a theme looking like a zen garden, but I thought it was not fitting the subject of my blog. So here it is, what do you think ?

A few stats

It’s been a few monthes since I reopened my blog and installed a statistics system I developped myself. I found it to be more efficient and realistic than others as I can update filters on search engines, spammers and bots on the fly.

You can see on every page / blog post stats on page views. This is due to an API I made for myself allowing to display that information. (more…)
