Updates, this blog is not dead (yet)

Ok, I must admin it, I didn’t update my blog for the past few months (november).

There are lots of reasons to that, the first one being, time is missing. I’ve been very busy with projects I built for clients around WordPress. I started working on some Android applications and I must say I love making those.

I will probably release my first app within a few weeks (well, when I find time).

In the meantime, I’ve been trying to work on ZdMultilang and fix all these issues you gave back to me but time is a big issue for me, wife, kids and a new job.

Yes, I recently got hired by one of the biggest Video Game company in the World as a Sys Engineer.

I’m also moving houses this month so don’t expect too much updates on the plugins.

By the way, if someone is willing to help on the development of ZdMultilang, you can contact me here and I will facilitate that.

I’m going to drop WordPress slowly as I don’t have much more time to work on that. But I will start making more apps for the Android pretty soon :) .

ZdMultilang version 1.2.5 is out !

Ok, I posted recently about an update that was coming, and honestly I didn’t think it will be ready that soon. But Pau Sanchez made a very nice addition to the plugin and there I was, integrating it to the core and making all the changes I planned before.

Before giving you the changelog, let me tell you this, I found a way to make translated permalinks work, but, this is very bad in term of SEO so it is not yet implemented. The way I implemented it for now makes these work :
http://blog.zen-dreams.com/fr/nouveau_post
http://blog.zen-dreams.com/en/new_post, that’s great
and finally, http://blog.zen-dreams.com/en/nouveau_post and that is not good at all as two different permalinks with the exact same content…

I’m trying to find a way to make it work properly right now, and even those who forked the plugin have this behaviour. I have my ideas so we may see a version 1.2.6 before Christmas, but probably not.

And now, here is the changelog.

ZdMultilang major announcement

I know it’s been quite a while I didn’t post any update about ZdMultilang. This is mainly because I didn’t have time to work on it recently.

It will include lots of new features, some bugfixes and still no different permalinks for each languages.
Apparently someone managed to do it for Carla Bruni Sarkozy but they forked the plugin and didn’t share the changes…

I just contacted the company who made the website and see if they will share the knowledge. If not, then we will all have to wait until I fix that. (more…)

ZdMultilang, Call for bug request and feature requests

It’s been quite a while without any update on ZdMultilang and today I decided to plunge back into the development of the plugin in order to fix bugs, improve functionality.

In order to do so, I need YOU. I will make all the improvements and bug fixes based on a priority list that I want you to help me build.
Below is a list of bugfixes and features that will be included in the next release (or two if I release first a version with full 2.8 compatibility) (more…)

ZdMultilang Updated

Ok, I’m back into action as I can now work a little bit more from home. I’ve got some WIFI problems but I can work !

So here is the first proof I can work again, you will find that ZdMultilang has been updated for a fix to the bug that made translations impossible to perform with WP 2.7.

In fact I had to change the way variables where passed to the plugin for post/page translations. In the meantime, I included translations for Spanish (made by Guillermo Lopez) and Brazilian Portuguese (made by DJIO - www.djio.com.br)

For now on, I’ll be working on new plugins for WordPress, but I can’t tell you what ;)

[EDIT] The plugin still had a bug due to the change of variable passing. Version 1.2.2 is now out and corrects it !

ZDPlugins now have an official forum

As you might have noticed, there is now a new tab on this site. It corresponds to a forum I installed today in order to provide more collaboration with plugins support.

This will give everybody the chance to share their knowledge regarding various plugins I created.

I Hope this will help you all.

ZdMultilang version v1.2.0 is out

As I mentioned this week, version 1.2.0 of ZdMultilang is out. This means a lot of modifications and it now takes in charge a greater number of elements. Here is a quick list of new features :

  • Blog name, blog description, links + description, link categories + description, category descriptions are now translatable.
  • Flag for the current  language won’t be displayed anymore in language selector and widget.
  • Import from Google directly from the post editor.
  • Draft status added for translations.
  • Support WordPress 2.7
  • Corrected a bug with wordpress 2.5
  • Better system to create languages (more intuitive)

What’s next ?

Well, I do have to create a new documentation as nearly everything has changed.

Do a screencast on how to use the plugin.

So far so good with ZdMultilang

Has you are probably aware, WordPress 2.7 beta 3 is out. Even if this is not the final release and some features may change, I always test my plugins against new major releases.

So, the very good news is, ZdStatistics and ZdMultilang are both compatible with WordPress 2.7 Beta 3 and everything makes me suppose it will be fully compliant with Final Release of WordPress 2.7.

Another very good news for ZdMultilang Users is next version will soon be out and lots of new exciting features will be included. Here is a short list of features that will be released.

  • Flags are not displayed for current language (they were useless in that case)
  • Flags and widget are now working properly
  • Easy addition of languages (through predefined lists)
  • Draft status for translations !
  • Import from Google Translate while translating posts/pages
  • Better menus (compatible with ozh admin dropdown menu)

New translations :

  • Blog title
  • Blog description
  • Links + description & Links categories + descriptions

What's new with ZdMultilang

It’s been a while since I made real update with ZdMultilang WordPress plugin.

One of the most problematic part of the plugin was to define languages as language codes where not known of the users. So, in order to help you define your languages, next release of zdmultilang will include a language selector which has been made using the list of languages included in WordPress.

The language selector will look like this. Clicking on a link will fill correct values, allowing you to modify them before to save.

ZdMultilang 1.1.1 is out

I’ve been working a lot on ZdStatistics V2 until now, Today i’ve managed to find out how to include the media bar inside the translation editor and also how to fix the editor problem.

You will now be able to add pictures directly from the editor without having to find the correct URL.

Regarding the problem with the editor load, is due to the cforms II plugin – see this support issue.

If you need the cforms II plugin and Zdmultilang at the same time, I would advise you to deactivate the WP Editor Button support in your general settings (in the cformsII panel) as shown below :
